Here’s some things to think about for road trips where you must stay connected to conduct some business whether trading or other. I’ll address all of these and more in future posts. Most of the tips will apply whether you are taking just a short trip or extended life style change. Feel free to add your posts with your suggestions and experiences.
1. Laptop backup and restoration.
Quickly and easily get back up and running if a hard drive crashes or laptop lost/stolen. OK, relatively quickly and easily. The key is to have a plan and be prepared.
2. Telephone and email communication
Have a Skype account including a local Skype number and online email access. Carry a quad band, unlocked cell.
3. Small, lightweight and reliable equipment.
Every ounce counts! Leave the seven pound, multi-media laptop with the 17” screen at home. Equipment and travel gear for relatively light weight and convenient travel.
4. Time and task management for the road warrior.
Get more done in less time so you can actually enjoy the trip!
5. Don’t forget why you left home.
There’s a reason you left home and it shouldn’t have been to sit in the condo or hotel room and day trade. Expand your horizons. Have fun, meet new people, have new challenges.

Hi Rob ,
In what way is the content of the new book different
from the original Dynamic Trading manual from 1997 ? I haven’t been following all the changes at DT over the last couple of years .
Thanks , Wim.
I’ve found the only real problem with travelling and trading is the extortionate cost of mobile broadband. My experience of travelling and trading is that it is fine with a 10 inch netbook where there are free wireless hotspots, but sitting in the outback or on a beach with a blackberry is extremely expensive and screen space is too cramped. Depends how long you are away for, as a a couple of weeks is ok as you know what is coming, but 6 months is something different.
Reece – be careful of free wireless hotspots. You could comprise you login/password info for just about anything on your laptop. Although sometimes difficult to find, I try to locate a secured connection for bank transactions and trading requiring passwords, etc. Perhaps someone has a better solution if free wireless is your only choice…
I confirm Reece’s comments. A couple of months ago, someone got my bank UN and PW, accessed the account, transfered funds from three accounts into one and almost got away with $48,000+. I caught it just in time while the transfers were pending. I have no idea how they got my UN and PW but could have been from using a wireless account at a cafe. Whether that was the case or not, I’m with Reece. I won’t access any financial account from an unsecured wireless from here on.
